Andorra Telecom's incubator / accelerator, the NIU, hosted a total of six projects at its facilities during its 2019 financial year. These are entrepreneurs who promote technological start-ups in activities as diverse as physical preparation, e-commerce support, data management or certification of building materials. The companies are not only physically located within the NIU, located in the Els Arcs de La Massana building, but they are assigned a mentor, who accompanies them, receives advice in different fields and has the opportunity to participate in the rounds of funding, which are held annually under the name of the NIU Demo Day.
Specifically, there are four projects in the Andorra Telecom business incubator that took part in the 2019 Demo Day. These are Trion Data, Koodata, Athel Exercise and Petracoin, which join Vector and Musiclist, two external projects selected by the NIU. About sixty professionals, including representatives of banks, venture capital funds, family offices and business angels, took part in this event, which enabled entrepreneurs to present their start-ups to other entrepreneurs.
The person responsible for kicking things off was the General Director of Andorra Telecom, Jordi Nadal, who emphasised that the Demo Day fulfils a double function: to help companies to seek financing and to provide visibility to the entrepreneurship ecosystem of Andorra.
The NIU’s international activity during 2019 was intense. Of note are the collaboration agreements signed with blockchain as a common thread with ProteumX, the accelerator Silicon Valley, and the Spanish consortium Alastria.
ProteumX’s Barcelona headquarters have become the epicentre of European research into start-ups operating with this technology. The agreement allows NIU companies operating with this technology to obtain support from the American accelerator. For its part, Alastria, which brings together the main Spanish companies and start-ups, offers its technological network and the collaboration of the Andorra Telecom business incubator in entrepreneurship programmes and use cases.
